Morning Adhkar: A 5-Minute Routine You Can Actually Keep (With Counts)

"The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if they are small." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6464, Sahih Muslim 783)

Why most of us fall off

Most people don't stop doing their morning adhkar because they don't care. They stop because the list feels long, one busy morning breaks the rhythm, and then the guilt makes it easier to skip the next day too. The fix isn't more willpower. It's a smaller, clearer routine you can do on your worst morning.

When to say them

The morning adhkar are said in the morning, from after Fajr. Many scholars mention the time until sunrise as the best, with the forenoon still counting.

The core list (with counts)

| Dhikr | Times | |---|---| | Ayat al-Kursi (2:255) | 1 | | Surat al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas | 3 each | | Allahumma anta Rabbi, la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani…

Two virtues worth knowing

  • SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, 100 times a day: "…his sins will be forgiven even if they were like the foam of the sea." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6405, Sahih Muslim 2691)
  • Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru…, 3 times: the Prophet ﷺ said that whoever says it three times in the morning will not be struck by sudden harm until evening. (Sunan Abi Dawud 5088, Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3388)

How to make it stick

  1. Start with 5. Pick any five from the list and do them every day this week. Add more when five feels easy.
  2. Tie it to something you already do. Right after Fajr, or before you open your messages.
  3. Don't reset to zero. Missed a day? Pick up tomorrow. A streak that forgives you is one you'll keep.
  4. Put a reminder where your thumb goes. Your phone gets unlocked dozens of times a day. Let one of those be a reminder.

A small tool that helps

Dhikr Streak is a free iPhone app (no ads, ever) built around exactly this: a swipe feed of the morning and evening adhkar with a tap counter, a daily goal of five, and a streak with freezes so one bad morning doesn't wipe your progress. There's also a Home Screen widget with Mesbah the lantern. Get it on the App Store.

Small and daily beats big and rare.

Make this a habit. Track your daily adhkar with Dhikr Streak.
